SL Arora Physics Class 11 PDF

Different students study in different ways so there is no such thing as the best reference books for everyone. However, regarding physics in the eleventh class, many students in India have settled on SL Arora’s New Simplified Physics owing to its fantastic explanations. The book is divided into two volumes, Volume 1 and Volume 2, and each consists of a number of well-written chapters. Today, I’m going to take a good look at the chapters and reveal what they have in store.

SL Arora Physics Class 11: Contents

As mentioned above, the book comes in two volumes, 8 chapters in volume 1 and 7 in the second volume for a total of 15 chapters.

Volume 1

Physical World

This first chapter introduces the foundational concepts of physics relevant to class 11 and their role in understanding the physical world. Some of the ideas that students will learn here include physics in relation to the physical world, the mechanism of the fundamental forces and conservation laws.

Units And Measurement

Measurements and calibrations play a key role in physics which is why the second chapter is dedicated to introducing students to such matters. Main subtopics of the chapter comprise basic SI units, dimensions of physical quantity, measurement process, accuracy and precision.

Motion In A Straight Line

In the third chapter, students will get a chance to learn how objects move in a straight line. Through the chapter, students should be able to master position, path length, displacement, speed, velocity, acceleration and equations of motion.

Motion In A Plane

The goal of the fourth chapter is to go deeper into motion via two dimensions and projectile motions. At the end of the chapter, students can gain a complete understanding of vectors, projectile motion and relative velocity, explanations as well as calculations.

Laws Of Motion

The fifth chapter deals with the laws of motion laid down by ancient physicists like Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei and Aristotle. The chapters aim to help students grasp Newton’s first, second, and third laws of motion. They also have to solve calculations related to friction and circular motion including diagrams.

Work, Energy & Power

For your information, the sixth chapter explores the basics of work, energy and power in addition to the principle of conservation of mechanical energy.

System Of Particles And Rotational Motion

Key subdivisions of the seventh chapter contain center of mass, angular velocity, torque, moment of inertia and equilibrium

Gravitation

Gravity is what everyone experiences daily while on Earth but a similar term, gravitation, is often confused with it. In the eighth chapter, the author started by outlining the difference between the two terms then proceeded to discuss universal gravitation, gravitational field and acceleration due to gravity.

Volume 2

Mechanical Properties Of Solid

Despite the material’s inherent rigidity, the ninth chapter states that it can still be stretched, compressed and bent. By going through the subsections like elasticity, stress and strain, Hooke’s law and Young’s modulus, students will be able to comprehend mechanical properties of solid.

Mechanical Properties Of Fluid

Have you ever wondered how a bulldozer lifts or moves heavy objects while the driver makes the least movements? They take advantage of hydraulic cylinders, an idea explained in Pascal’s law which is one of the basic principles studied in the tenth chapter. The chapter also takes its time to talk about concepts such as Archimedes’ principle and Stokes’ law.

Thermal Properties Of Matter

As the name suggests, the eleventh chapter addresses the effect of heat on a matter (for instance, how gas expands when heated). The chapter covers several sub-topics including calorimetry, thermal expansion, specific heat and heat transfer mechanisms (conduction and convection).

Thermodynamics

In case you don’t know, thermodynamics is a branch of physics that studies the relationship between heat, work, temperature, and energy. It is a wide branch but Arora ensures that students stay on the course by outlining matters relevant to their level. Subcategories of the twelfth chapter encompass the first and second laws of thermodynamics, heat engines, carnot engines and refrigerators.

Kinetic Theory Of Gases

Through theories like Gay Lussac’s law, Boyle’s law, and Charles’ law, the thirteenth chapter explains to students the behavior of gas at the molecular level. Aside from that, students will also learn how these laws were derived and the way to describe the molecular speed of gas via Maxwell’s speed distribution.

Oscillation

Oscillation is in essence a type of motion where a body moves back and forth repeatedly within a certain path or position. To teach students about oscillation, the fourteenth chapter is broken into harmonic motion, oscillatory motion of a spring, pendulum, damped oscillations and forced oscillations

Waves

The fifteenth and last chapter of the book describes the wave motion via its characteristics and types (mechanical, electromagnetic and matter waves). At the end of the chapters, students should have an easy time tackling questions about the speed of waves, sound waves, and the Doppler effect.
